Catnic Diamond Lath is an expanded galvanised steel sheet that gives plaster and render a secure mechanical key and reinforces against cracking, and it is especially useful over joints between dissimilar materials. Sheets are 2500 x 700 mm and come in two weights: 0.9 kg/m² (Catnic DL089), which Catnic specifies for walls, and 1.61 kg/m² (Catnic DL161), which Catnic specifies for ceilings. On solid backgrounds it is fixed with masonry nails, plugs or screws with washers over the lath, keeping a minimum 8 mm spacer gap behind it so the render can flow through and grip; on timber, supports go at 350 mm centres maximum with all strands sloping downwards and away from the finished face, and laps of at least 100 mm tied at about 150 mm centres. Catnic states galvanised lath is for internal use only, and Diamond Lath can also form part of a fire protection system for structural steelwork. Where to use it: • Background (key) for plaster and render on walls and ceilings • Crack reinforcement, especially over joints between dissimilar materials • Lathing over timber supports or steel channel before plastering • Part of a fire protection system for structural steelwork Important: • Not for outdoor render, facades, balconies or terraces — ask us for the Catnic stainless steel sheet lath (DL111S). • Not for bathrooms, wet rooms or anywhere with heavy condensation or constant damp — use the stainless steel lath instead. • Not for swimming pools or water tanks — galvanised lath is not made for water contact. • Not a floor or screed reinforcement mesh — this is a plaster and render background for walls and ceilings.
